Elisha's Spring Jericho is thought to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world - dating back to nearly 10,000 years. Located beyond the Northern portion of the Dead Sea (the lowest place on Earth) Jericho is also about the lowest city on earth some 800 feet below sea level. Nearby you can see the mountains (between Jericho and Jerusalem) that capture water far above Jericho, and then carry the water through underground springs where it spews out in this desert oasis. One of these springs is Elisha's Spring, which was called so after the prophet Elisha who purified its waters by salt. It is also called Ein Al-Sultan because the Babylonians put out the eyes of the ousted king of Jerusalem here. Elisha's spring with Jericho in the background Elisha's spring is considered to be the main source of water in Jericho. It has an output of about 700 cubic meters per hour, and a salinity of 600 fractions per million. It provides a steady output throughout the year, and thus, it is equally used for drinking and irrigation. It is also considered sacred water since it is believed that Christ, peace be upon Him, had taken a bath in it before he ascended to the Mount of Temptation, where he fasted for forty days. Building on the above mentioned unique characteristics of Elisha's Spring, Sinokrot Global Group initiated its project that aims to process and bottle the spring's water in a 250 ml. cups. The project is equipped with the most modern technology needed to process, purify, and bottle the spring's water in small cans in conformance with local and international quality standards. The majority of the products are distributed through the Telepherique & Sultan Tourist Center that sells them to the tourists. The remainder of the products is distributed equally between the supermarkets, wholesalers, restaurants, café shops, and parks. These products are considered unique and competitive in terms of its sacristy and being the first of its kind in Palestine.
